These Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Almond Cookies are categorized as a “healthy”  snack by The Dallas News because of their alternative ingredients. They rely on maple syrup instead of sugar and whole-wheat pastry flour rather than refined all-purpose flour. At first glance, they might not seem all that healthful. Sure, each cookie contains 3 grams of fiber but also has 220 calories and 12 grams of fat. To compare, three Oreo cookies contain 160 calories and 7 grams of fat, but only 1 gram of fiber.

Still, the Oatmeal Cookies contain almonds, which are packed with important B-complex vitamins and vitamin E, and rich in mono-unsaturated fatty acids. What’s more, the dark chocolate chips have more healthful antioxidants than many fruits and vegetables, including prunes, blueberries and spinach.

So go ahead and call them healthy but don’t eat all 12 of them at once! They can be refrigerated for four to five days in an airtight container.
